In this post I am not writing about Google,yahoo,Msn.Everybody knows them and goes to these sites to find thier things.There are various other search engines which are visually appealing,cool,different.Some of the sites have taken search results from the biggies and have modified the way we see the results.Some of them have clustered the results.Some have given the results in a pictorial form.Some in tabular.
I have given the names of some of the cool searchies and a little description on them.I have used the term iPhone to search on all these sites.
From the name you can guess that it is something related to clusters.And yes,you are right Clusty ,groups the data in clusters for finding specific things of a product or a fileds.Take for eg iPhone when you search it on clusty it groups the pages into clusters of
iPod,Mobile,reviews,accessories,app,blog,wallpaper,download,store,photos.Thus it makes our findings easier.
A cluster in Clusty.
Quintura is a visual search engine which is a cool thing about it.It groups the search results in clouds.When I searched for iphone it resulted in the following cloud.
On rollinghte mouse on any of the words it would result in a small isture and the corresponding results.It is quite like clusty but is very visually stunning.But i found the clusters of Clusty more relevant to the topic.
Kartoo is also a visual search engine which clusters the data and produces the data in a map like form which when rolled upon interlinks the related pages on the same map. and on rolling the mouse on the clusters it.
This is the way in which Kartoo presents the reults.
Searchme is also a visual search engine but it does not uses clusters.It produces the results in a sideshow form.It previews the pages which it searches.This is quite like when iTunes display the album cover of the songs.
This is how it diplas the reluts.But there are many shortcomings in searchme.Firstly,its quite slow as compared to all the other search engines.Secondly,the searches are very very very less in number.If searchme is able to overcome these shortcomings then it will next gen search engine.
it will only cost a click but will make me happy
